Northwest Iowa Dairy Outlooks

A local discussion of current science and issues concerning dairying in northwest iowa

U.S. District Judge Edward McManus has ordered three members of the Rubashkin family to pay more than $2 million for having defaulted on their bank loans, according to court papers. Aaron and his sons, Sholom and Tzvi, had borrowed the money from the now-defunct Omni National Bank for equipment leases for the now-defunct kosher processor, Agriprocessors Inc., and for rental properties in Postville, Iowa, where the company operated. Because Omni collapsed last year, the judgment was entered on behalf of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and Value Recovery Group. The amount of the judgment is the amount of the loans, plus interest and costs of the case for the FDIC and Value Recovery.
