The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) elected new officers Sunday during the closing session of the 134th annual TSCRA convention in San Antonio.

Joe J. Parker, Jr., Byers, was elected president; Clay Birdwell, Canyon, first vice president; Pete Bonds, Saginaw, second vice president; and Eldon White, Fort Worth, executive vice president.

“The continued determination and commitment of cattle raisers is needed as our industry looks to the future,” said Parker. “It is an honor to serve as president of TSCRA and I look forward to working with our members to ensure the strength and stability of the Texas cattle industry.”

Parker is a partner in Parker Ranches Ltd. with his brother Jim. Together, they are involved in ranching, wheat farming and operate a pecan orchard. Parker was re-elected to the TSCRA board in 2005 and elected second vice president in 2007.

Parker is also chairman of the board and president of the First National Bank of Byers; vice president and manager of Parker & Mayo Inc., an investment company; and partner and manager of Parker Minerals Ltd., an oil and gas investment company.

He is a member of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), a director of the North Texas Rehabilitation Center in Wichita Falls and a state director of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas.

Parker is the second Clay County rancher to serve the TSCRA president; Brian Edwards served as president in 1949-1950.
